About
👋 Hi!
I'm Keeley
A passionate advocate for raising awareness about Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
My journey began as a victim of VAWG in my teens, but it took years for me to finally report what happened. Now, I’m determined to challenge the outdated views that still surround this issue and help others who feel alone in their struggle.
I’m currently working on my non-fiction book Hiding in Plain Sight, which exposes how sex offenders often blend into society unnoticed.
I’m also excited about the upcoming release of It’s All Your Fault in 2025, and Happy Now…? will follow, completing the trilogy.
Through my writing and my blog, I aim to break the silence on VAWG, give a voice to those who’ve suffered, and inspire real change.
When I’m not writing, you can find me with my two daughters, who are the driving force behind everything I do.
I’m a huge fan of rap metal, especially anything with a killer guitar solo, and love losing myself in a good non-fiction book.
Oh, and if it’s a John Hughes movie from the 80s, you can bet I’ve seen it more times than I can count.
Take a look around, read my posts, and check out my books if you’re ready to dive deeper into these tough but important conversations.

Some Points to Remember When Reading This Blog
The language that I use does change throughout my writing. For example, I use the phrases victim, survivor, and victim-survivor, interchangeably. The phrase that I use at any given time reflects how I feel when writing each post.
Sometimes, I resonate with the phrase ‘victim,’ whilst other times I resonate more with the term ‘survivor.’ Neither term is right or wrong, and I’ll never tell you how to identify when reading my posts.
The purpose of having this inconsistent language also reflects the changing nature of dealing with and processing trauma.
Other language that I use interchangeably is ‘abuse’ and ‘assault.’
Again, the use of these phrases depends on how I’m feeling at any given time when I’m writing a post. I experienced sexual abuse, but sometimes, this is too big a thing to admit to myself and so I’ll use. the phrase ‘assault’ instead.
I can’t explain it, but this is part of how I process and manage the experiences in my mind.
1. Trauma Recovery is Ongoing
I'm still processing a lot of when I experienced and despite wanting to advocate and raise awareness about VAWG, I'm not ready to do it under my 'real' name as yet.
2. Legalities
I cannot legally name or give any information that could lead to the identification of the perpetrators. By writing under a pen-name, I'm able to create another layer of keeping them anonymous.
3. The Impact On My Job
I work in a public-facing job and I just don't need the people I work with to know what I've experienced. It's just not necessary.
Is Keeley Brennen My Real Name?
I’ll answer the burning question right from the off.
My real name is not Keeley Brennan.
It’s nowhere near my real name, and this is intentional for a few reasons.
People choose to commit acts of violence against women and girls.
They are not the same thing.
